Tesla opens pre-orders for Tesla Semi

five years after its presentation.

A $5,000 credit card prepayment is required at the time of booking. A second payment of $15,000 via wire transfer is due within 10 days.

Companies such as Walmart, PepsiCo and beer producer Anheuser-Busch have already pre-ordered Tesla Semis.

Tesla has not provided information on when deliveries of the Tesla Semi might begin.

According to the company's Web site, the expected base price of a Tesla Semi with 300 miles of range is $150,000.
The expected base price of a Tesla Semi with 500 miles of range is $180,000.

The company claims that a fully loaded Tesla Semi can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 20 seconds.
